Kongsberg Automotive (KA) has developed and delivered some of the most advanced seat comfort solutions and gearshift systems for Volvo's new flagship XC 90, which also is the vehicle with the most content from KA ever. Confirming its leading position in these technologies globally.
Seat comfort from KA in Volvo's new XC90 consists of advanced lumbar support systems, back and side support, seat heating and seat ventilation. As an option, XC90 customers can also experience advanced massage systems developed and supplied by Kongsberg Automotive.

Seat comfort solutions for Volvo XC90 have been developed at KA's facility in Mullsjö, Sweden, where the company also develops similar systems to a number of other European automakers, and production takes place at the company's factory in Pruszkow, Poland.

Kongsberg Automotive has its origins with the production of parts for Volvo since 1957 and has supplied and developed parts for Volvo cars and trucks ever since. In the 1970’s KA supplied seat heat for their cars as the first in the world, and followed up with other seat comfort features in the 1980’s. Shift by wire from KA
KA also supplies shifters for automatic transmissions and an advanced "Shift-by-wire" system for Volvo’s XC90. Shift-by-wire is a form of electronic gearing without the mechanical linkage between the gearshift lever and gearshift. This technology provides new opportunities for space, and weight reduction and improved efficiency.
The T8 hybrid models of the XC90 will be available with a crystal shifter from Sweden’s Orrefors, one of the world's leading brands of glassware and art glass, and is part of Volvo Scandinavian design language. The gearshift system is developed and manufactured by KA's facility in Mullsjö.
