This represents a breakthrough for the new power electronics products we set out to develop a few years ago, and is the result of excellent interaction of expertise between e-Power, KA and QRTECH, said Joachim Magnusson, EVP, Driveline.

Kongsberg Automotive supplies power electronic systems, targeting the world’s leading electric and hybrid vehicles.  Our efforts to provide a more sustainable driving experience are beginning to yield commercial results.

In March 2014, Kongsberg Automotive was awarded a contract from a major European OEM for the supply of On-Board Chargers (OBC) for its Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles. The estimated total value of the contract, which was the first for this type of product, is 10 million euros (NOK 85 million) over its duration.

The OBC technology has been developed by e-Power Nordic (e-Power), a subsidiary of Kongsberg Automotive. The OBC will be used first in Plug-in Hybrid City Buses and later also in other vehicles to be sold worldwide. Production under the contract starts in the fourth quarter of 2015 from our facility in Mullsjö, Sweden.

e-Power Nordic AB was established in 2011 and is a research and development company focusing on power electronics for hybrid and electric vehicles, with products such as On-Board Chargers, Converters and Inverters.

Combined with Kongsberg Automotive's track record and full in-house electronics manufacturing capabilities, e-Power aims to become a preferred supplier in an immature, but very attractive market. e-Power has a unique and tight-knit team of electronics and mechanical engineers who work in parallel with production engineers, enabling fast performance and short lead times.
