Crystal Shifter System to Volvo Concept Coupé
Kongsberg Automotive delivered the “crystal shifter system” to Volvo’s latest Concept Coupé, that was on display at IAA 2013 (Internationale Automobil- Ausstellung) in Frankfurt.
This shifter is equipped with state of the art technology, and sets a new standard in terms of safety, weight, compact packaging and styling.
For us it´s a great pleasure to support our strategic customers with more than a part for the production line. This is the future and we will be part of it, said Joachim Magnusson, Executive Vice President for Kongsberg Automotive Driveline.
The crystal piece of the gear knob of Volvo's Concept Coupé is supplied from Orrefors, a known name in Scandinavian glass and crystal design, while the rest of the system is supplied by Kongsberg Automotive. This concept car shows Volvos design profile going forward and Kongsberg Automotive will be part of it.
Kongsberg Automotive's Driveline business area supports the Volvo Car Corporation with the latest technology and expertise in Shift by wire systems (SBW). SBW is an upcoming technology in consumer vehicles providing new possibilities, such as space saving and more economical gearing. New locations for placing the gear selector and different kinds of interaction are also possible. The technology removes the mechanical link between the gear lever and gearbox, and the gear shifter communicates with the transmission electronically.
