Fernando has a background as an industrial engineer and he talks passionately about his career in Kongsberg Automotive. He previously worked as a process engineer in a medical company, but when he was recommended for a similar position in Kongsberg Automotive he made his move and never looked back.
He is now the launch manager at the Reynosa plant - one of three plants in Mexico – where he works to assure successful introductions of new products and that production processes are according to customer requirements. Since he started, the Reynosa plant has grown from 240 to 750 employees, and Fernando now leads functional teams of around 15 people.
Our plant is growing rapidly and this brings new processes. I lead the plant team to launch production changes and product introductions. I assure that new product introductions flow without any extra charge, on time and on budget
Fernando is constantly challenged to think differently and find potential areas of improvement. The job involves a lot of interaction with his colleagues and the plant management.
“It is challenging, but I like it a lot, and we are continuously improving in key areas. I like the diversity of my job and that things don’t stay the same”.
Fernando has leapt at the opportunity to attend internal training programs and developed professionally. He recently completed KAspire, one of Kongsberg Automotive’s managerial development programs. He is open to working outside Mexico, and the US and Poland are on his list.
His interest with cars has increased since he started working in Kongsberg Automotive. On top of his wish list is a BMW M3.
I use the learnings from my time as a trainee every day
